Laura Dawson’s involvement in book industry spans 30 years, much of that focused on metadata standards. And now she’s on her own with a consulting practice focused on metadata standards development and teaching on the subject. I heard yesterday from some colleagues who had just completed her six-week online course, Metadata Boot Camp, and were very pleased with the results.
She has recently taken on the task of handling U.S. registrations for ISNI, the International Standard Name Identifier. The ISNI site explains how the standard works. In an interview with Porter Anderson, Laura offers lots of background detail on the ISNI use case and where it fits into the wider world of metadata standards. Laura created a slide deck with some good graphics illustrating ISNI and the metadata universe.
It’s great to see one of metadata’s top experts furthering the cause.
